PleuralPorts are subcutaneously placed drug delivery depots, for patients requiring repeated access to the pleural cavity for the delivery of medications or for repeated removal of pleural effusions. The PleuralPort is accessed percutaneously with a Huber point needle. Pleual effusions are removed by placing a Huber point needle on a syringe into the port septum, and withdrawing. A Huber point (non-coring) needle must be used when accessing the port. The deflected point of this needle preserves the integrity of the port septum. Visit our Huber Needles page to learn more.

Aspiration Technique
• aseptically prep skin over the PleuralPort
• insert Huber infusion set needle
• aspirate effusions into a sterile syringe

The withdrawal pathway is from the pleural cavity through the fenestrated catheter and port chamber and out through the Huber point needle. During medication delivery, the pathway is reversed.

Once surgically placed during a short and relatvely simple surgical procedure, all that is seen is a 'bump' under the skin. cat with PP

The PleuralPort provides a comfortable way of treating those requiring repeated access to the pleural cavity.

There is no exit site and no part of the PleuralPort is exposed reducing the opportunity for infection.

PleuralPorts are packaged in kits that include surgical suggestions and information for the pet owners.

Available in 2 sizes, the PleuralPort is designed for repeated entry into the pleural cavity for drug delivery or withdrawal of pleural effusions in all sizes of companion pets. The PleuralPort must be accessed with a Huber point, non-coring needle using aseptic technique.
